University of Dhaka
The first-ever University in Bangladesh, Dhaka University began with 192 students and 3 faculties in July 1st, 1921. The current Emergency Building of Dhaka Medical College was the Main building of the University. P. J. Hartog was the first Vice Chancellor and the first Registrar was Khan Bahadur Nazir Uddin Ahmad.
The University of Dhaka was established under the Govt. of India Act. XVIII of 1920 (Which was based on the recommendations of the Calcutta University Commission presided over by Sir Michael Sadler) as a unitary, teaching and residential University with a constitution similar in many respects to those of the then contemporary English University Following the creation in 1947 of the province of East Bengal as a part of Pakistan.
The East Bengal Educational Ordinance, 1947, was promulgated, by which the University, without prejudice to its original character as a teaching and residential University was entrusted with sole authority to recognize and affiliate all educational institutions in East Bengal above Materict and High Madrasa standard Accordingly, in 1947, the University of Dhaka affiliated 58 1st and 2nd grade colleges throughout the whole of East Bengal After independence the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh promulgated the adaptation of University Laws by the Bangladesh Ordinance No. 1 of 1972. Afterwards, in pursuance to the Constitution of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the President Order No. 11 of 1973 which is called the "Dacca University Order, 1973 was promulgated.

City University started with three floors of the Bulu Ocean Tower in year 2002, 1 st of October. We started with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the School of Business , offering Bachelor of Computer Science and Engineering (BCS&E), and Master and Bachelor of Business Administration (MBA and BBA) respectively. Later, the Department of English, and the Department of Textiles Engineering were added upon approval by the Universities Grants Commission. At present, all departments are providing courses in both the undergraduate and graduate levels. As of date, the Departments of Law, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, Economics, Development Studies, and Telecommunications Engineering are in the final stages of approval by the Universities Grants Commission. Executive MBA is offered from two campuses, one in Banani, and the other in the business district of downtown Motijheel, with rich course contents and experienced faculty.

Darul Ihsan University
Darul Ihsan University (DIU) is the first private university in Bangladesh established in 1989 by Darul Ihsan Trust (DIT). It obtained formal approval from the Government of Bangladesh in 1993 under the Private University Act 1992. The University, a brainchild of Late Professor Syed Ali Ashraf (Who was also its founder Vice-Chancellor), is a Unique Academic establishment, the only one of its kind in the country, modern in outlook but faith-based in philosophy.
In order to promote mutual understanding among the faculties and students of Darul Ihsan University and foreign universities, a number of collaborative academic programmes have been launched. The University signed and Exchange programme with the Tennessee State University (TSU), USA in March 1999.
The University of Hartfordshire of UK has also agreed to admit directly the BBA students of IBS to its 3rd year Honours programme on fulfillment of certain conditions. The Syed Ali Ashraf Institute of Higher Islamic Learning works in close cooperation with the Al-Azhar University of Egypt. Similar Exchange Programme between the Darul Ihsan University and the University and the University Kebangsaan Malaysia is in the process.
