Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) is the premier Postgraduate Medical Institution of the country. It bears the heritage to Institute of Postgraduate Medical Research (IPGMR) which was established in December 1965. In the year 1998 the Government converted IPGMR into a Medical University for expanding the facilities for higher medical education and research in the country. It has an enviable reputation for providing high quality postgraduate education in different specialties. The university has strong link with other professional bodies at home and abroad. The university is expanding rapidly and at present, the university has many departments equipped with modern technology for service, teaching and research. Besides education, the university plays the vital role of promoting research activities in various discipline of medicine. Bangladesh University of Professionals

Establishment of a University for the Armed Forces educational and training institutes was a long felt need. National security, war strategy, medical, engineering and technology related to higher studies are in high demand at present. To keep pace and to be at par with the fast developing world, the national higher studies, research enabling modern knowledge and creating scope for education and studies are the obligations to be fulfilled. In order to expand and integrate the existing educational and training institutes of the armed forces, they were needed to be brought under a single umbrella or authority. Thereby, the establishment of �Bangladesh University of Professionals, (BUP) took place in that process and came in to being as 30th public university of Bangladesh on 05 June 2008. BUP is a unique public university run by the armed forces with upholding the motto "EXCELLENCE THROUGH KNOWLEDGE". The youngest university is confident in furthering the knowledge in the field of national security, technology and modern science to achieve the desired human resources development of the country.

Center for Medical Education


Since its establishment in 1983, Centre for Medical Education (CME) has been relentlessly working to reorient the medical education system in the country to meet the emerging community needs.

CME has a fast developing special library section with books on educational innovations, educational psychology, instructional techniques, curriculum development, curriculum evaluation etc. Many WHO and other publications on Human Resource Development for Health are also available. CME is a regular subscriber of a number of medical journals related to Medical Education and Educational Science.

Dhaka Medical College

Dhaka Medical College stands as an icon of our country. It started its journey in 1946 in a building, built in the light of colonial architecture in 1902m in the centre of the city between Dhaka University and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in the Ramna area. The majestic building now accommodates the famous Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Dhaka Medical College has played a pioneering role in the development of medical science, health care delivery and in nation building activities of the country. The college boasts of a highly reputed array of intellectuals and academics. Its students are extremely talented with an intense affinity for gathering knowledge to attain excellence and deep sense of commitment to serve the nation.

The college began with an MBBS course admitted around 100 students each year. In 1982 post graduate courses were started with Diploma in Anesthesiology and Gynecology and Obstetrics. Later other post graduate diplomas in various disciplines were added. Masters degree courses in many disciplines were introduced from 2002. Presently 34 post-graduate courses are run by the college.
